Though, our students are from the Los Angeles metro area and abroad. We welcome all to apply to our school. Our classes range from beginner to the most advanced levels. Many prospective students have concerns regarding their enrollment, education and their chances of becoming a successful actor. We’d like to address the most widespread actor and acting myths here.
Debunking 4 Popular Myths about Acting Careers
1. If you don’t pursue acting in your 20’s you will never make it. So what is the best age to start acting?
"I'll never make it unless I break-through in my 20s." Rene Russo broke through when she made Lethal Weapon 3 at 38. Morgan Freeman made Street Smart at 50. Olympia Dukakis was 56 when she did Moonstruck. Naomi Watts did Mulholland Drive at 33. Glen Close was 35 when she made The World According to Garp, and so was Catherine Keener when she made Living in Oblivion (but no one knew who she was until Your Friends and Neighbors at 38). Ellen Burstyn made The Exorcist at 41. Samuel L. Jackson was 43 in jungle fever and 46 in Pulp Fiction. Danny Aiello's first job was at 40 years old he was 56 when he did Do The Right Thing. After being a stage actress, Ruth Gordon started writing in her late forties and became a movie star at 72. Enough said about these older actors with well known talent, there are no set guidelines on what is the best age or when to start a career in acting or enrolling in an acting school.
2. No acting preparation is needed until you get cast.
"When I get a paying job, that's when I'll do the work necessary." You will never have a lasting career if you don't know how to do the work. Doctors don't learn to practice medicine after they begin working in the ER, nor do lawyers take the bar exam on a whim. Even famous actors continually polish and develop their skills, many of which have received personal coaching from the lead instructor at our acting school. As the saying goes, "luck is being prepared for opportunity when it comes."
3. An aspiring actor needs to have connections or be rooted into an acting network to be cast.
"It's not what you know, it's who you know," is commonly said. While who you know can open doors for you, you won't stay in the room very long if you can't perform. (Perhaps the adage should be "it IS what you know AND who you know.") Be prepared before auditioning. People will be willing to take a meeting with you as a favor, but rarely do people get cast for this reason alone. Taking acting classes at our industry known North Hollywood acting school could be one of the best decisions you could make.
4. Acting rehearsal can inhibit my creativity if done too much.
"If I rehearse too much, I won't be fresh." This myth is only true if you don't know how to rehearse properly. Every actor in our acting school is taught how to properly prepare and practice their acting talents and techniques.
What truly differentiates our acting school is the personal instruction by each acting coach, their experience and knowledge, and their ability to dispel myths and other intrinsic flaws, barriers, and misconceptions that could be holding you back from reaching your true potential as an actor. They give you all the education, tools, powerful acting techniques and business related know how to get you out of class and onto the set. The facts speak for themselves; take a look at a brief sample listing of acting jobs our past students have booked.
